I Was There – 1 John Chapter 1

Pastor Garret Edwards

Pastor’s Thoughts
We begin a new series this week in 1 John, called ‘Children of God’.
I really like this title because it encapsulates so much of what the letter is about. We could perhaps claim this to be the ‘mega theme’ of the letter.
Jesus’ work on the cross made it possible for believers to be adopted into God’s eternal family. God truly is our Father, we truly are His children. Jesus is our big brother and we are all siblings in Him. Continue reading “I Was There – 1 John Chapter 1”

Gods’ Patient Pursuit – Jonah Chapter 4

Pastors Garret Edwards

Pastors Thoughts

We’re closing up our series on Jonah this week.
I wonder, as we reflect on the story, what has struck you about God’s relentless grace?
If you haven’t done so already, please read the story of Jonah before Sunday. All of it, in one sitting. It will take less than 10 minutes. And consider the things Jonah may have learned about God and people and the miracle of grace.
The story of Jonah shows us, in dramatic fashion, that God’s care and concern – His purpose to save – extends to the whole world – even the Assyrian enemy that would soon destroy Israel. It reminds us that God’s grace is for everyone – and that it can be extremely surprising who responds to it. Continue reading “Gods’ Patient Pursuit – Jonah Chapter 4”

The Flood

Today’s speaker : Elder Dr. Philip Dawson

Pastor’s Thoughts

Romans 5:8 reads: ‘but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.’
As you have probably picked up by now, God’s grace is weighing on my heart at the moment, and I know, many of yours also. It captures us as Gospel people doesn’t it? Grace. There are many reasons why I would lay down my life for my wife and daughter. There is absolutely no reason why Jesus should lay down His life for us – except His relentless love and grace toward us! There Is Power In The Word Of God

Todays speaker – Elder Simon Edmunds

Pastor’s Thoughts

As I’m not preaching this week, I wonder if you’d permit me to share a thought prompted by a recent Bible reading I had which sits well in the theme of grace which we’ve been exploring recently in the book of Jonah.
The text was Hebrews 12:2 which reads: “looking to Jesus, the founder and perfector of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Continue reading “There Is Power In The Word Of God”

Big Love – Jonah Chapter 3

Pastor Garrett Edwards

Pastor’s Thoughts

Last week in our study of Jonah, we saw that we follow a God of  second (or thousandth) chances. Jonah looked up and repented, and God gives him another shot…at obedience.
In Jonah 3:1-2 we read: Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it the message I tell you.”
What God is doing here in chapter 3, is ‘re-writing’ chapter 1. This is the nature of the gospel isn’t it, and of God’s relentless grace? To rewrite lives and eternities. Perhaps you’re at a point where your story requires a ‘re-write’. Continue reading “Big Love – Jonah Chapter 3”
